she left him to die or to sink into madness.

screams filled the chamber, the corridor.
They
overloaded the machine and fried the lights.
When
they found him, his eyes rolled weakly in their sockets.

tried to focus on his tormentor. Hatred kindled brightly.
No
one had survived the chair that long.
No
one had had more reason to live.
No
one had had more reason to hate.
He
found his lifeline.
He
would kill Scorpius.
